Ian Langford-Brown: Order of Australia

ian l b

Congratulations to NSBC member Ian Langford-Brown on his award of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Ian has been appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia “for significant service to youth through Scouts, and to the community of the North Shore”.

Ian chaired the National Executive Committee of Scouts Australia from 2003-2009 and successfully steered reforms to the organisation. He was the Honorary Treasurer from 1999-2003, and again from 2017-2018.  For his exceptional service, Scouts Australia recognised Ian with the National President’s Award on 1 August 2009.

Ian has made an extraordinary contribution, again as a volunteer, to World Scouting. He was the Chief Risk Manager from 2011-2017, Internal Auditor 2009-2016, and Vice-Chair, Asia-Pacific Region, Financial Resources Sub-Committee 2005-2008.

In 2018, Ian was presented with the prestigious Bronze Wolf Award by the World Organisation for the Scout Movement – the highest and only honour bestowed by the World Organisation for the Scout Movement.  The citation noted Ian’s “diligence, devotion and distinction, and living by the Scout Promise and Law in all aspects of his work”. Ian is the first non-uniformed member of Scouts Australia to be honoured with this Award.

Ian’s appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia also recognises his other significant volunteer contribution to the community. This includes as President of the Lady Game Community Kindergarten 1971-1994, President of the Killara and District Softball Club 1984-1987, and as Treasurer of the Chatswood Legacy and Legatee since 2006. He was also Convenor of the Ku-ring-gai Financial Services for a number of years.

We send our congratulations to Ian on this appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia.
