Goulash Night this Thursday!

goulash

In the days when we used to deal the cards by hand (anyone remember them?), one way to have fun in a social setting was to deal unshuffled cards in packets - say 3 or 5 at a time.

This coming Thursday evening at 7pm, we are having a Goulash session on RealBridge - with fun and cash prizes on offer! So come along - whether you are a champ or a ROOKIE - and test your creativity.

Goulash dealing  generates highly distributional hands that lead to unusual bidding and play.  Some players like to deal "goulash" from time to time as an exciting interlude to generate challenging hands to bid and play.

Here's an example...

goulash

South had a tough call over the 5♦ opening bid, but decided to push to slam regardless, bidding 5NT to show a 2 suiter. Over 6♥ he corrected to 6♠. When east discarded on the first trump the hand was virtually a double dummy problem (West having opened a vulnerable 5♦).

It’s not uncommon for players to have 7 or more cards in a suit, or perhaps a two-suited hand. And yes, your opponent will often have surprising length in your suit, so beware!   Needless to say, goulash dealing is not in accordance with the Laws of Contract Bridge, but when players are looking for some real action as a diversion from “real Bridge”, goulash dealing can provide loads of fun – provided the players have a good sense of humour.

Do you have one of those?  Then see you on Thursday night. Enter via Upcoming Events!

And if you're feeling peckish - try John's recipe for Goulash:

JOHN’S CLASSIC GOULASH Recipe

Classic Goulash is one of my favourite old fashioned recipes, made with ground beef, onion, bell pepper, and macaroni in a seasoned tomato sauce with diced tomatoes. It’s perfect for busy weeknight dinners because all it takes is one pot and less than 45 minutes!

If you have a better one - let us know via the contact form - we'll give you a mention!
