May I start by wishing you all a happy new year and to add my sentiments to no doubt many of your friends wishing that your 2022 is much better than your 2021!

My main purpose for writing to you today is to provide you with an update on the process we are following to recruit a General Manager for our club.  When I wrote to you regarding Liam’s resignation, I mentioned that he very kindly provided us with ample notice.  To be more specific, Liam has advised that he will stay in his role until mid-March at the latest.  This means that we should have sufficient time to not only evaluate potential candidates but also for Liam to provide the successful candidate with a thorough handover.  Once again, I would like to publicly state how grateful I am to Liam for his accommodation of the club.

Many of you would have met our long-time member David Wurth who is a career HR professional.  David has been engaged by the club to manage the recruitment process.  David has decades of experience in recruitment and we are very appreciative of David’s support at a much-reduced rate from his standard fees.

Given the holiday period David advised us to hold off on posting an advertisement for the role until next week.  We will therefore be advertising on SEEK early next week as well as via various bridge-specific avenues including our own club website.

I see no reason why the whole process should not proceed at pace from then and I believe that we will be able to announce an appointment by early February.

A handful of members have written to me since I announced Liam’s resignation to share their views on the committee’s decision on the way forward.  As I have written on numerous occasions during my tenure as the Club’s president, I am always open to receiving feedback and therefore I do truly appreciate that those members have taken the time to write to me.

I mention this because once again I would like to remind you that several of the committee members, including myself, do not plan to stand for office in 2022.  The committee are your elected representatives that act on your behalf to govern our great club.  If you feel passionate about how the club should be governed then please consider standing for the committee when nominations open before the AGM which will be held in early April.

Should you have any comments or questions or would like to discuss your potential nomination for the committee I invite you to reply respectfully to this email.
