Tom joined Lindfield Bridge Club more than 50 years ago, and was an active member of NSBC until recent years. In addition to playing, Tom also taught and directed at the club, and served as Director or committee member for 19 years, including 6 years as Honorary Vice President. 

 

Tom first appeared on the honours board in 1970 as part of the winning team in the Open Teams club championship. He won the Open Teams championship a further 5 times, as well as club championships in Men’s Teams (5 times), Men’s Pairs (4 times), Open Pairs (3 times) and Individual Championship (1976) and Mixed Teams (2003). He also won the Bale Cup and Super Congress Pairs and Teams.

Tom was a member of the NSW Seniors Team on 4 occasions, captaining the team in 1998 and being part of the team which won the Interstate Senior Teams championship in 1995. He and his long-time partner Bill Westwood won the City of Sydney Teams competition in two successive years in the 1980s, then represented Sydney in worldwide inter-cities team competitions in Hong Kong and Tokyo.

 

Another of Tom's passions was as a bell ringer at St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney.

Tom’s wife Claire is also a long-standing member of the club. Tom leaves five children - Philip, Andrew, Judy, Geoffrey and Rachel - their partners, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend Tom’s funeral at 12pm on Thursday 29 February 2024, in the Lotus Pavilion at Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium, with refreshments to follow.
