Vale Ishmael Delmonte

It comes as very sad news that Ishmael Delmonte passed away today - 25/07/2025.

Ishmael played a major part in expanding professional bridge in Sydney in the late 90s and early 2000s.

I had the pleasure of being on the very first New Zealand Youth team competing in the World Youth Championships in Denmark in 1992. Ishmael partnered Ashley Bach while I partnered Michael Ware.

Ishmael won endless Australian National events and was one of Australia’s leading players for many years.

I also had the pleasure of partnering him to win a Far East Open Pairs event.

We also served on many professional teams; sometimes playing together and other times with different partnerships.

Ishmael along with Ed Barnes was the founder of the Kings and Queens Bridge Club which closed at the end of 2024 after many successful years.

Farewell my good friend - you will be very sadly missed by all Family, Friends and the Bridge World.
