Vale Don Smith

It is with great sadness that I have to report the passing of Don Smith, a long time NSBC member, who died on Christmas Day, aged 96. Many of our members will have fond memories of Don as the consummate gentleman - articulate, charming, polite, of excellent mind, very witty and a wonderful bridge partner.

He was a very good bridge player (a Silver Grand Master), winning some major tournaments at the Gold Coast Congress as well as at our own club. Even in his late 90s Don won regularly at East Lindfield and a few months ago attained over 74 percent playing with his adored wife Glenys to whom he was married for 65 years. He also had long term bridge partnerships with Peter Boulton, David Smee, Derek Maltz and of course Glenys.

We are hoping to publish a longer article on Don’s life in the next Club Newsletter.
